Manage episode 343116763 series 3239594
INTERVIEW BEGINS AT: 24:10
In North America we all learn about the underground railroad, the path to freedom in the North that escaped slaves used before and during the American Civil War, However, it didn't end where America ended, it stretched all the way into Canada. It also didn't end, as in use, when the war ended, what did happen is the parts we are not taught in school. That the underground Railroad remained active, but not in the the way it was originally conceived.
Author and historian Brian Martin has done extensive research into this very topic and has written an amazing book that chronicles this previously seldom talked about time in history, and we are so honored to have him on the show to talk about this fantastic book From Underground Railroad to Rebel Refuge: Canada and The Civil War (2022 ECW Press)
