Today's guest, Dr. Sally Dang, Doctor of Optometry, discusses her numerous collaborative efforts with civilian, Veterans Administrations and Department of Defense optometrists and ophthalmologists in order to establish best practice service approaches. Services that may be implemented when a Service member becomes injured in theatre and experiences Traumatic Brain Injury. Dr. Dang's discussion provides informative reporting leading to recognizing the existing shortcomings in programming for blinded veterans as well as action plans for improvements.
Dr. Dang herself experienced the utmost of tragedies in the loss of her husband to a suicide bomber while he was serving in Iraq. Sally's riveting life long story, beginning with fleeing Vietnam as a child, is a story of pain and tragedy. Sally discusses turning her extreme tragic experiences into an opportunity to devote her professional talents towards advocacy efforts and improving services for blind veterans.
