[00:30] What Inspired Tara To Start Studying Sleep

  • In 2007, when Tara lost her youngest son, the grief and depression really took away all of her sleep.
  • If you lose enough night to sleep, you really are cognitively drunk.
  • Eventually, Tara dove deep into sleep research and figuring out how to get the best sleep possible.
  • Tara realized that quality sleep enhances overall health and wellness, giving you focus on taking the day.

[04:20] If You Get Less Than Six Hours of Sleep Over Two Weeks, It Is The Same As Being Legally Drunk

  • You can go without food longer than you can without sleep.
  • Your body functions better when fasting. However, the same does not go for sleeping.
  • Sleep is fundamental. If you don’t sleep for ten days, you can die.
  • We need sleep for longevity and health. If you don’t sleep, you won’t function well.
  • Your chances of getting in a car crash are exactly the same if you’re sleep-deprived or drunk.

[09:20] True or False: You Should Get Eight Hours of Sleep Every Night

  • The myth that you need eight hours of sleep is one of Tara’s favorite ideas to debunk.
  • Eight hours of sleep actually came about in the Industrial Revolution.
  • Once we fall asleep, this is where some of the magical parts of the environmental factors like temperature can really come into effect.
  • Our neurons are triggered by a change of temperature. You get the most amount of deep sleep when your body is two degrees cooler.
  • The probability of getting the deepest sleep is in that first half when it's getting cooler.
  • 98% of your weight loss is going to happen during deep sleep.

[18:35] Chilisleep: Innovative Layers Make The Difference

  • Our bodies want to get cooler in the first half of the night. That way, you unlock the most amount of deep sleep.
  • So, you need to help your body drop two degrees in its core temperature.
  • The Chilipad will go under your sheets. It will help pull the heat off of you.
  • Utilizing hydropower, the sleep system operates between 55-115°F, helping encourage quality, restorative sleep.

[23:45] Snuggle Up Sweat Free With chiliBLANKET

  • A weighted blanket can release serotonin and reduce anxiety.
  • We're born from a very tight little womb. We bundle babies to calm them.
  • Those instincts of cuddling and feeling protected release serotonin.
  • The weighted blanket can calm anxiety and help you sleep at night.
  • That’s why Tara sells her very own weighted blanket. The chiliBLANKET™ is the only hydro-capable cooling weighted blanket that can also be paired with an OOLER or Cube control unit. Learn more about it here: http://ketokampchilipad.com/

[26:20] Why Tara Says “You Need To Be The CEO of Your Own Body”

  • Insurance and healthcare in America are designed to treat sick people.
  • You have to own your own wellness.
  • No one else is going to know us as we know us.
  • It's our responsibility to take ownership over our bodies and our health.

[30:30] Tracking Your Sleep: What You Need To Know

  • Tara is a fan of the Oura ring.
  • However, with any sleep tracker, their efficacy, especially on the sleep states, isn't awesome yet.
  • Wearables are on your body, so their ability to track your sleep states isn't as high.
  • Deep sleep isn’t the most important stage. Instead, you should focus on a balance.
  • During REM, there's a really fundamental part that helps with working through our emotions and filing memories.

[39:10] Ice Baths Before Bed: Will It Improve Your Sleep?

  • A twenty-minute ice bath is phenomenal for your sleep.
  • Go to bed an hour after your ice bath.
  • If you’re in a hotel room, cold cycling can reset your circadian rhythm.
  • Putting people in that pre-hypothermic state will reset our clock.

  • “Everything in the universe responds to cold cycling.” -Tara
