Alex Kerr is an author, speaker, consultant and visionary who founded the Chiiori trust- a chain of successful rural guest houses which appeal to domestic and international tourists alike. Alex Kerr has written many books and given many talks on the need to preserve the valuable traditional assets in Japan- tourism can be an innovative way to do this. Alex's books Dogs & Demons (2002), Lost Japan (1996) among many other books in Japanese and English have pointed out problems, but also the hidden gems of Japan's traditions and culture that can be pulled into relevance in the modern age.

Alex's books are loved by people around the world and he has talked with government officials and communities across Japan. Alex has many ideas for how better choices in the industry to make it more resilient and attractive to tourists as well as new residents.
