Jasmine created an English library for a Japanese school.

Hello my name is Jasmine Elaine Swainson. I was born in Bremerton, Washington at Naval hospital Bremerton. My dad William Swainson was active military and my mom was a hairstylist. We lived in Bremerton till I was 8 years old where I was very active in dance. I attended a Spanish immersion program at my school. At that time we moved to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and I attended a 50/50 immersion school. In 7th grade my family and I moved to Sasebo, Japan. This is where my Girl Scout years began. As a cadet I earned my silver award by making a baby blanket and donated it to the Marine corps relief society. Some of the things I like about overseas Girl Scouts is we get to interact with the Japanese girl guides and I have made lots of friends, even if they move we stay in contact. Before the coronavirus pandemic hit the world I had started my project and I originally was going to do a therapeutic garden for the sailors and anyone who could go on base. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit I really searched for alternate options because there was no way to continue with my idea and there were other longevity issues. I then went to a Japanese school over the summer and saw that they had a small amount and limited reading level of English books in the library. With COVID shutting everything down and people being stuck at home deciding to clean and get rid of stuff I saw a way to help. I realized I could take old English books people on base we’re trying to get rid of off their hands and clean and organize them and then donate them to the school to help expand their English library.
