On this week’s episode of the podcast Director, Writer, award-winning Filipina-Canadian filmmaker and Vancouver native, Kathleen S. Jayme, joins Agee & Gates to talk about her Hoop Dreams origin story. Kat’s documentary Finding Big Country was the winner of the 2018 VIFF People’s Choice Award and the #MustSeeBC Award, and has been programmed by Telus, ESPN, ABC, Amazon, Rogers Sportsnet, NBA TV, and Air Canada. Jayme has since gone on to direct for the CBC, NBA, ESPN, and Crave. Her latest film The Grizzlie Truth premieres October 1st and explores the unsolved mystery around the 2001 disappearance of the NBA’s Vancouver Grizzlies right out from under the nose of the city of Vancouver and it’s basketball faithful. The movie is a love letter to one of the worst pro sports teams in history and an exploration into the deep roots of sports fandom.
